Islamic University, Bangladesh is one of the major public universities in Bangladesh, established on 22 November 1979. It was founded with the objective of integrating Islamic studies with modern education and research. The university is located in Kushtia, with its main campus at Shantidanga–Dulalpur, approximately 24 kilometres from Kushtia town and 22 kilometres from Jhenidah.

The university operates on a large campus of around 175 acres, featuring academic buildings, residential halls, a central library, a medical centre and various administrative facilities. Over the decades, Islamic University has grown into a comprehensive institution offering a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes.

Islamic University consists of multiple faculties, including Theology and Islamic Studies, Arts, Social Sciences, Law, Business Administration, Science, Engineering and Technology, and Biological Sciences. These faculties collectively offer more than 40 departments covering subjects such as Al-Qur’an and Islamic Studies, Arabic Language and Literature, English, Bangla, Economics, Law, Accounting and Information Systems, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering.

The university has a student population of over 18,000, supported by a large number of academic and administrative staff. It plays a significant role in higher education in southwestern Bangladesh and attracts students from across the country.

The current Vice-Chancellor is Professor Dr Sheikh Abdus Salam. Under his leadership, the university continues to expand research activities, academic collaborations and infrastructural development. Islamic University remains committed to producing graduates equipped with both moral values and professional competence, contributing to national development and intellectual growth.
