Begum Rokeya University

About

Begun in 2008, this public university was created to expand access to higher education in northern Bangladesh. It is named after Begum Rokeya, a pioneering advocate for women’s education. Located in Rangpur, its urban campus spans about 75 acres and houses multiple academic buildings, a central library and student halls. The university hosts 22 academic departments organised into faculties covering sciences, arts, business, engineering and social sciences, serving around 7,000 students from across the country. It is led by Vice-Chancellor Md. Showkat Ali, focusing on research, community engagement and broad academic offerings.
