About

Khulna University is a prominent public university in southwestern Bangladesh. It was established in 1991 with the aim of expanding higher education opportunities in the Khulna region. The university began its academic activities in 1991–92 and has since developed into one of the country’s respected centres for teaching and research.

The campus is located in Gollamari, Khulna, beside the Mayur River. Spread across a scenic and environmentally rich area, the campus is known for its greenery, open spaces and modern academic buildings. Unlike many other public universities in Bangladesh, Khulna University does not have student politics on campus, which contributes to its relatively peaceful academic environment.

Khulna University offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes through several schools and disciplines. The major schools include the School of Science, Engineering and Technology; School of Arts and Humanities; School of Social Science; School of Management and Business Administration; School of Life Science; School of Fine Arts; and School of Law. The university provides diverse subjects such as Architecture, Urban and Rural Planning, Computer Science and Engineering, Environmental Science, Biotechnology, Economics, Sociology, Business Administration and Development Studies.

The university has more than 7,000 students and a dedicated faculty body engaged in teaching and research. It has gained recognition for its strong programmes in Architecture, Environmental Science and Biotechnology. Research activities often focus on climate change, coastal management and sustainable development, reflecting the region’s geographical context.

The current Vice-Chancellor is Professor Dr Md Rezaul Karim. Under his leadership, Khulna University continues to emphasise research excellence, academic discipline and innovation. Over the years, the university has contributed significantly to producing skilled graduates who serve in government, academia, industry and development sectors across Bangladesh.
