University of Rajshahi

University of Rajshahi is one of the largest and oldest public universities in Bangladesh. Established in 1953, the university was founded to reduce educational pressure on the University of Dhaka and to expand higher education opportunities in the northern region of the country. Over the decades, it has grown into a major centre for academic excellence and research.

The university is located in Rajshahi city and has a spacious campus of approximately 753 acres, making it one of the largest university campuses in Bangladesh. The campus includes academic buildings, residential halls, a central library, research centres, cultural facilities and extensive green spaces that create a vibrant academic environment.

The University of Rajshahi offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes through a wide range of faculties. These include the Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Business Studies, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Life and Earth Sciences, Faculty of Agriculture and Faculty of Fine Arts. The university has more than 50 departments and several institutes, offering subjects such as English, Economics, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Marketing, Finance, Law, Sociology, Biochemistry and Environmental Science.

The university serves over 30,000 students and is supported by a large body of academic staff and researchers. It has a strong tradition of student activism and played a significant role in the Language Movement and the Liberation War of Bangladesh.

The current Vice-Chancellor is Professor Dr Golam Sabbir Sattar. Under his leadership, the university continues to emphasise research development, academic discipline and international collaboration, maintaining its position as one of the leading public universities in Bangladesh.
